Core Processes for Quality Assurance

Preprocessing

Preprocessing is the step in which files are processed and optimized for translation. This step includes character data optimization (CDO), which in turn comprises optical character recognition (OCR) and manual typing tasks.

Language Processing

Language processing lies at the heart of Sprok DTS’s operations and refers to our Translation-Revision-Proofreading (TRP) Process. This process is carried out by our linguists using cloud-based computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools.

Postprocessing

In postprocessing, files that have undergone language processing are rendered into final drafts such that they resemble the format of the source text. This step includes desktop publishing (DTP) processes.

Linguistic Sign-Off

Linguistic sign-off (LSO) is the last step before delivery in which the translated text is reviewed in its entirety from quality to layout.

Do computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools signify machine translation?

No. CAT tools are professional software programs developed to help linguists focus solely on their translation tasks. Using CAT tools allows linguists to complete their translations with consistency over repeated text segments.

Yes. All of Sprok DTS’s translation processes not only include the translation itself, but also additional revision and proofreading steps.

Besides translation, fees associated with desktop publishing (DTP) may be incurred. DTP processes are managed by our desktop publishers, not our linguists. DTP refers to the process in which layouts, fonts, images, and other visual components are formatted. While each DTP process is different, it generally takes up a significant portion of nearly all document translation projects. When translating manuals for machinery, for example, tables and images are considerably displaced after translation; in some cases, the entire layout needs to be reformatted.

Furthermore, the total cost may include a subtotal of a 5% PM fee and a 10% VAT, notwithstanding DTP-related fees.

Translation projects are wholly managed by our project managers (PMs), including all preparation processes for the document. Project management is a significantly time-consuming task that takes up a substantial percentage of the translation process. The PM fees apply to these considerations.

Yes. We encrypt all our customer data using the industry standard AES-256 algorithm (ISO/IEC 18033-3). Furthermore, our cloud-based CAT tool complies with the ISO/IEC 27001 international standard for information security management systems. On top of these technical and tangible security protocols, NDAs are available upon customer request.

Yes. Sprok DTS provides an unlimited amount of QC services free of charge. However, these free QC services are only limited to instances in which faults in the quality are imputed to Sprok DTS. For arbitrary revisions upon customer request, we normally provide up to five QC services free of charge. Additional costs may be incurred depending on the scale of the project.

Data Security

We only use client data to process tasks related to our clients. From the point at which said tasks are complete, the client data is stored in our servers for 6 months. All client data retained are encrypted using a unique 256-bit AES key. Client data is promptly deleted after 6 months of retention. Upon customer request, client data retained for less that 6 months can be deleted using an irretrievable algorithm.
